The bonding of the main characters might have needed more time to gel so that makes me want to check out the 'Band Of Brothers' mini-series. Excellent effects, sound, and DOP though.

If not mistaken, Saving Private Ryan was not based on an exact true story in terms of the characters (not the setting). The taking of Normandy Beach did happen and so did the Bridge Too Far campaign.
The Band of Brothers are based on the true story of the 101st Airborne unit during D-Day spread out in 10 episodes. Their mission was to disable artillery and inland defense of the Nazi. Very memorable show, I might watch it again.
